In Jim's own words

"Hi there.

My name is Jim Harris. I am a Carbondale, Colorado based printmaker, illustrator, and walking paraplegic.

“I guess I’ll have more time for art now,” I tried joking as they lifted the backboard. For a decade I’d been making a living as a mountain guide and as the camera guy on expeditions. But now I was on the way to a hospital in Patagonia and I couldn’t feel or move anything below my sternum.

In the few years since that accident I’ve participated in an improbable recovery. I progressed from wheelchair to walker to cane. I regained my independence, if not the physicality I once possessed.

I do have more time for art now."

About Jim

Jim is an artist, guide, photographer, mentor, and incredibly deep thinker who also happens to have suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed. In 2014 on an expedition to ski across the south pole Jim shattered multiple vertebrae. Prior to the injury Jim was the tip of the spear in ski photography and exploration. After his injury Jim expanded his abilities to include more art, thought leading, and the pursuit of something deeper...LIFE. Jim has remained an explorer innovating his life to continue his adventurous attitude and ways, expanding his art and impact within his communities, and seeking sustainable solutions throughout the evolution of his life.  Zirkel Optics has partnered with Jim in it's first featured artist series. Jim's print of our namesake, Mount Zirkel, captures the bold hypnotizing spirit of the most prominent peak in Northern Colorado.

Together with Jim 25% of each sale will go towards High Fives Foundation. High Fives was a crucial piece in Jim's recovery and independence. They continue to do amazing work bringing resources and hope to others who sustain spinal cord injuries. Thank you, Jim and High Fives, for allowing Zirkel to be a part of your communities.
