Chapter Three - Sustainability & Community
Built for
the planet
we ride.
FUTR LenZ™ explains the optical platform. TTCO explains how that platform is tuned to terrain. This chapter explains the larger system behind it: materials, manufacturing, and community choices designed around long-term responsibility.
The Principle
Performance gear should make athletes see farther without making the planet pay for the view.
Zirkel is independently owned, Colorado-rooted, and built around a simple test: when a decision improves optics, production, and the places athletes use them, it belongs in the product. When it does not, we keep working.

How We Make It
Every material.
Every process.
Intentional.
Sustainability is the consequence of our nature-focused technological innovations. Better optics matter. Better terrain contrast matters. But the same discipline has to show up in the way the frame is made, packed, assembled, and supported in the real outdoor community.
01
Zirtek™ Plant-Based Frames
Zirkel frames are produced from Zirtek™, a 100% plant-based, bio-derived material containing zero petrochemicals. The goal is not a softer alternative to performance plastic. It is strength, flexibility, and all-day comfort without fossil-fuel dependence as the default.
02
SLS 3D Printing
Selective Laser Sintering lets us build frames without injection molds. That means no mold tooling waste, no oversized production runs, and more control over how much material enters the process. We print what we need with the precision the product requires.
03
FUTR LenZ™ Nylon Optics
Our lenses use sustainable certified polyamide nylon by ZEISS Sunlens in Italy, with partially bio-based material inputs that reduce reliance on fossil-derived polymers. It is the same optical story from the first chapter: clarity, durability, and better material choices belong together.
04
Recycled, Minimal Packaging
Packaging is built from recycled and recyclable materials wherever possible, with the same standard applied to size and weight. No oversized boxes. No unnecessary virgin plastic. The package should protect the optic, then get out of the way.
05
Final Assembly in the USA
Zirkel optics are final-assembled in the United States, keeping quality control close and reducing avoidable supply chain movement. Designed, tested, and refined in the Colorado Rockies is not just a brand line. It is an operating choice.
06
ISO 14001:2015 Certified
ISO 14001:2015 is the international standard for environmental management systems. It creates accountability beyond self-reporting and gives the sustainability story a measurable framework, not just a set of claims.
Our Core Belief
People who know nature
take care of nature.
The strongest environmental argument is often an experience: a summit, a first descent, a cold river, a trail system that becomes part of someone's life. Community work creates more people with a reason to protect the places they love.
Community Investment
The ripple
starts at home.
Sustainability is not only material science. It is also access, education, safety, and stewardship. Zirkel supports the local and global outdoor systems that make athletes better and keep wild places alive.

The technology story does not end with lens clarity or terrain contrast. It ends with the choices behind the product and the places that product is built to protect.
